2022 PDC World Grand Prix Draw Confirmed.
The draw for the 2022 Boyle Sports World Grand Prix has been confirmed this afternoon. There have been some mouthwatering ties thrown up, as defending champion Jonny Clayton will start the defence of his title against the dangerous Dirk van Duijvenbode. And the El Classico of modern day darts see Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson lock horns.
The World Grand Prix is always a special tournament due to its unique double in start. This year the World Grand Prix will be played away from the Citywest in Dublin for the third year in a row. The tournament will be played from 3-9 October. at the Morningside Arena in Leicester.
The World Grand Prix field is comprised of the top 16 players from the main PDC Order of Merit. Then the next best 16 from the one-year Pro Tour Order of Merit.
Gerwyn Price, the world number one, will face Martin Schindler, one of three debutants in this year’s championship, as the Welshman attempts to duplicate his £600,000 victory from 2020.
World Champion Peter Wright continues his quest for his first World Grand Prix title against Kim Huybrechts, while fourth seed Michael Smith takes on Nathan Aspinall in another exciting match.
Both ties are a rematch of this year’s World Matchplay first round, with two-time winner James Wade facing newcomer Martin Lukeman and Masters champion Joe Cullen facing Australia’s number one Damon Heta.
Sixth seed Jose de Sousa will face 2010 finalist Adrian Lewis, eighth seed Rob Cross will face 2017 champion Daryl Gurney, and Dimitri Van den Bergh will face two-time finalist Dave Chisnall, the newly crowned Belgian Darts Open champion.
Danny Noppert will face German number one Gabriel Clemens, while four-time European Tour champion Luke Humphries will face 2019 semi-finalist Chris Dobey.
