Andrew Gilding dreaming of a second major as Goldfinger sends Anderson packing

Andrew Gilding moved into the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix following his comeback win over Gary Anderson.

In March Gilding won his first PDC TV title when he lifted the UK Open in Minehead, and now he is eyeing up a second major crown.

“Why not!? It’s crazy I never thought I’d win a major.

“I never thought I would win a major tournament, and now I’m dreaming of winning another, but Michael is playing well. He is so natural and it will be hard to beat him.”  Gilding said when asked.

Anderson led both 1-0 and 2-1 before mistakes from the Flying Scotsman crept in. Gilding was growing in confidence and dominated the deciding set.

Gilding missed match darts before sealing his place in the final eight at the Morningside Arena.

“Unbelievable,” Gilding opened. “Gary can play a lot better than that and I just don’t know how I did it. I’ve been playing long enough now that I know if you keep plugging away you might get a chance.”

“In all my games lately, I’ve just been capitalising on my opponents’ mistakes,” admitted Gilding, who also fought back from a set down to dump out eighth seed Rob Cross in round one.

“I did the same in the UK Open to be honest. I didn’t play that well through the tournament, I was just there when I needed to be.

Gilding has become a cult icon among darts enthusiasts since winning the UK Open.

“It’s great, I like it. I notice in the crowd now that there’s people cheering for me and I try to acknowledge them.
