Beau Greaves makes history at PDC Development Tour in Wigan

Beau Greaves and Keane Barry stole the spotlight in Wigan to pick up the Development Tour 11 and 12 titles.

A field of over 250 young prodigies battled it out at the Robins Park Arena in Wigan for the first two events of the weekend.

Beau Greaves made history in Wigan to become the first female player to win a Development Tour title in the first event of the day.

Greaves utilised the format to her advantage, having won 23 Women’s Series titles in similar style. Her success is a welcomed addition to her long list of accolades as she pocketed the £2,500 jackpot.

The 20-year-old sensation dominated proceedings and only conceded five legs in her eight matches, defeating Daniel Perry comfortably in the final 5-1.

An average of 96 across her eight matches, along with four 100+ averages thrown, has seen her rise to the upper echelons of Development Tour Order of Merit rankings.

Greaves threw 5 ton+ finishes over the course of the event, hitting 155, 123, 109, 107 and 101 checkouts in her fixtures.

The 2023 Women’s World Matchplay winner will be looking to continue her success from today to put herself inside the top two of the Order of Merit, which will win her a PDC Tour Card for 2025 and 2026.

Keane Barry’s success in the second event of the day resulted in him earning his third Development Tour title of the year, where he defeated Angelo Balsamo 5-2 in the final.

The Irishman overcame a series of tough draws on route, but was able to up his game a notch to sail his way through to success in the latter stages of the tournament.

Despite playing better than Jake Janaszkiewicz and Jarred Cole in the averages, he edged them out in last leg deciders to progress on.

His averages were varied with his lowest coming in his first game where he threw a lacklustre 75.88, but his highest came in the semi-final as he rose to the occasion to defeat an inform Wessel Nijman with a mesmerising 104.09 average.

The 2022 UK Open semi-finalist’s winnings of £2,500 will put him top of the pile in the Order of Merit heading into tomorrow’s double header.

He is currently the only player this calendar year to have won five figures in prize money from these Development Tour events, having pocketed £10,425.
