Boylesports World Grand Prix: Day Two Preview

The World Grand Prix claimed its first seed last night, with Dimitri van den Bergh falling victim to Ryan Searle. No such issues for Gerwyn Price who produced a blockbuster performance to see of Michael Smith.

Tonight sees four more seeds a looking to avoid the pitfalls of the double-start format, including World no.2 Peter Wright and 5-time World Grand Prix champion Michael van Gerwen.

MVG  begins World Grand Prix campaign

Michael van Gerwen is defending £110,000 in ranking money at the World Grand Prix this year, having won the event two years ago beating Chizzy in the final. 

Up first for MVG is his old World Cup partner Danny Noppert. They met last weekend in Gibraltar, with Noppert missing three match darts to beat Michael before Mighty Mike snatched it 6-5.

It took a brilliant performance from Price to stop MVG at the Euro Tour last week, and before that he picked up his first trophy of the year in the Nordic Darts Masters.

The darting community are starting to believe that the Green Machine is returning to his best form. But an early exit here might do some serious damage to that recovery…

Elsewhere on Day Two

Tonight is full of big names with plenty of major winners involved. This includes two World Champions colliding with Rob Cross taking on Peter Wright.

This tournament has been a bit underwhelming for Snakey in recent years. He reached the 2018 final but has been dumped out before the quarters in the two years since. Peter is playing brilliantly but Cross has shown signs of improvement in recent times that might trouble Wright.

Tonight also sees Gary Anderson in action against Ian White. If Gary finds his form he can light up any stage, but we’re never sure if he will manage that these days.

Another cracking tie is Aspinall v Ratajski, with the Pole producing some great stuff this year on TV you could possibly argue he is the favourite. The other ties are Dolan v Labanauskas, Clemens v Van der Voort, Rydz v Clayton and De Sousa v Durrant.

Most of these games are a coin toss and it would take a brave person to predict any of them. But you can follow the action and hear the reaction here at Online Darts.
