Cazoo European Championship schedule of play confirmed.

With the schedule of play for this month’s Salzburg event now confirmed, Peter Wright will begin his title defence against Florian Hempel on the opening night of the Cazoo European Championship.

On Thursday, October 14, world number two Wright will face rising German star Hempel in the first of six sessions at the Salzburgarena.

The tournament, which will take place from October 14 to 17, will feature the top 32 players on the 2021 European Tour Order of Merit after the events in Hungary and Gibraltar.

Simon Whitlock, the 2012 European Champion, will face William Borland of Scotland in the first game, while 2019 winner Rob Cross will face Irish sensation Keane Barry.

Jose de Sousa will face Welsh prodigy Lewis Williams, while Luke Humphries and Callan Rydz will compete in a match between two of the sport’s rising talents.

Eight round one matches will be played on Friday’s second night, with top seed Gerwyn Price facing Ritchie Edhouse.

Michael van Gerwen, a four-time European Champion, will face Boris Krcmar of Croatia, while 2018 champion James Wade will face Adam Smith-Neale of the United Kingdom. With top seed Gerwyn Price facing Ritchie Edhouse.

Michael Smith, the runner-up in the Hungarian Darts Trophy, will face Ryan Searle in a rematch from the World Matchplay in July.

On Saturday, October 16, the competition will continue with the second round, which will be split into two sessions, before the finals stages on Sunday.
