Dirk van Duijvenbode banishes the Gerwyn Price demons from his head “I just thought it’s becoming a demon in my head, I thought I’ve got rid of it now.”

In the past, Dirk van Duijvenbode didn’t fare well against Gerwyn Price, but on Saturday night at the Masters, he defeated “The Iceman” 10-8, reversing the trend.

Van Duijvenbode experienced more relief and was able to drive some mental demons from his head.

The Dutchman maybe could and should have won the 2022 PDC World Series of Darts finals in Amsterdam, but defeat in a last-leg decider against Price. 

Perhaps now van Duijvenbode has that monkey off his back.

 

“Well normally I don’t beat him so I’m just happy that I beat him to be fair,” 

“I remember (on poor record) but I don’t mind because half of it was the bad Dirk and I just thought about last game, I was in very bad form I made the final and I still made it to the deciding leg so I just thought you can’t beat me easily when I’m in form.

“I just thought it’s becoming a demon in my head, I thought I’ve got rid of it now. I was 5-3 up and he hit two big finishes to keep him in the game because it could have been easily 7-2 or 7-3 up. He hits a 170 and 116, that hurt a lot. That’s what he always used to do against me, I remember playing the European Championship semi-finals I think I was 3-1 or 4-1 up and I missed one dart and he hit a 140 finish so I know what he can do.”

“The man under pressure can hit anything. He never collapsed under pressure, I’m just happy I won in the end.”
