Michael Smith on Peter Wright frosty handshake ” He took his frustrations out one”
On his way to winning his second event of the season, Michael Smith destroyed Peter Wright while tempers were fraying at the Premier League Darts.
After defeating Gerwyn Price 6-4 in the Night 13 final, the defending darts world champion gave his Premier League title bid new life. At the First Direct Arena in Leeds, where he earned the maximum number of points, “Bully Boy” displayed his peak form, moving him up to third place in the standings.
But the 32-year-old’s reaction when asked about Wright’s reluctance to shake his hand right away after their semi-final was decided 6-2 wasn’t all smiles. In that defeat, “Snakebite” recorded the lowest average of the night at just over 80, and he made it clear to everyone how he felt about it.
“I even asked when I went back upstairs why did he slap my hand,” Smith told reporters following his win over Price. “I didn’t do nothing [wrong], didn’t open my mouth, didn’t say nothing.
“After the first game he [Wright] was moaning about the wind, and maybe again in the second, he was snatching a lot. And I was watching him throw – he didn’t look like Peter Wright.
“Maybe he was annoyed with himself, but he took it out on me. So that’s his problem, I guess. I just had to get on with my own job, and I think I did it well.”
