Robb is heading back to Ally Pally after victory in the DPNZ Tour Play-Offs

Robb is heading back to Ally Pally after victory in the DPNZ Tour Play-Offs.

Ben Robb has qualified for his fourth PDC World Championship after winning the DPNZ Tour Play-offs for the second time in a row.

The top 16 of the DPNZ Tour Order of Merit had qualified for this final tournament. The final tournament consisted of two group stages and a small knockout stage with the semi-finals and final.

The first group stage consisted of four groups of four players, with the top two qualifying for the second group stage. John Hurring averaged 91 across his three matches, but that wasn’t enough to advance out of the group.

The second group stage had two groups of four players, with the top two qualifying for the semi-finals. The top four seeded players remained in the event. Three of them made it to the semi-finals. Warren Parry was unable to do so, losing to Darren Herewini, who advanced to the semi-finals.

Herewini was unable to make an impact in the semi-finals, losing 7-0 to Haupai Puha. Ben Robb trailed 3-2 but found an extra gear to win 7-4 in the other semi-final against Kayden Milne.

Robb and Puha squared up in the finals once more. Puha began the final with a 104 finish to keep his own leg, but Robb quickly took three legs in a row to take a 3-1 lead.

Then ‘Big Rig’ landed a huge blow when he led 6-4, with finishes of 72 and 124. Puha missed three darts at a double to keep his hopes alive on his darts in leg eleven, allowing Robb to make the second break and reach match point; 7-4. A leg later, Robb closed it off with an 86 finish, giving him an 8-4 victory and a spot in the upcoming PDC World Championship.
