Anderson tells how he still has more gears to go through “I’m as happy as a pig in muck”
Gary Anderson has advanced to the Grand Slam of Darts quarterfinals. In a highly anticipated match, “The Flying Scotsman” triumphed 10–6 over Gerwyn Price.
Anderson’s average was around 105. In his post-match interview, Anderson chuckled, saying, “There’s life in the old dog yet.” “Gerwyn has been playing very well. Hitting 110 and 112 averages is a hard job to do, but I’ve hit a 102 and now a 104, so we’re getting there.”
The Flying Scotsman’ is getting back to his best as Anderson has been one of the most consistent players on the Pro Tour in 2023 as long as he plays with a smile on his face and a freedom in his throw. “I’m playing well on the practice board, I’m playing well on the floor, and that was the most comfortable I’ve felt on the stage for a while.
Aside from the additional practice hours with Ryan Searle, the change of darts has also aided the two-time world champion’s growth. Will Anderson continue to employ these arrows? “Depends how many people buy them. If nobody buys them I might change,” he laughs before more seriously saying, “But no, they’re going alright they’re working alright for me!”
Anderson will take on Luke Humphries in the quarterfinals and the Scotsman elaborated further on the levels he still has. “I’m as happy as a pig in muck. I think it’s been about 4 years since I’ve been like that on TV,” he says. “It’s still not quite there though, 104 is some way short of what I’ve been hitting,” warns Anderson.
