Beau Greaves around the uncertainty of the WDF calendar

Beau Greaves around the uncertainty of the WDF calendar ” The WDF are so uncertain with most things it’s hard to gauge when you are going to be playing again.”

After being crowned the 2023 Women’s World Matchplay champion at the weekend Beau Greaves spoke about the importance of the PDC giving the women the opportunities they have.

This comes from the uncertainty around WDF tournaments in 2023, after the World Masters was cancelled due to a lack of funding.

Greaves won the Lakeside title back in April of 2023 but is yet to defend her crown as the WDF moved their Lakeside dates back. Greaves will start the defences of her title in December.

In 2023 there have been fewer and fewer WDF tournaments in the UK for different reasons and this has led to frustration from the players in both the men’s and women’s game.

“Having the World Matchplay is a big bonus for us ladies. The WDF are so uncertain with most things it’s hard to gauge when you are going to be playing again,” Greaves said. “I think we’re all used to not being on TV that much anyway so we all sort of know what’s going to happen.”

“That’s why it’s so important that the PDC is giving us additional opportunities with the Women’s Series and the Women’s World Matchplay,”

On her way to victory at the Winter Gardens Greaves only dropped four legs on the way to the title, and in doing so booked her place back at Alexandra Palace for the World Championships in December and the Grand Slam of Darts in November both live on Sky Sports.

This will mean that Greaves will have showcased her talent three times on TV within the PDC since winning the Lakeside title 18 months ago.

Greaves also makes the suggestion that the Women’s World Matchplay field be expanded from the current eight competitors.  “I think there’s room for more and it would be good to have more in and see different faces.”
