Gary Anderson in his fight to get back to the top “It is in my blood so I might as well bite the bullet”

Gary Anderson in his fight to get back to the top “It is in my blood so I might as well bite the bullet”

Anderson is a man that had the sport in his hands, reaching three world finals in a row winning two of them. His love affair with the sport seemed to be over have years of moaning and telling how he hated playing.

Anderson has slipped down to a lonely 22nd in the world ranking, causing much speculation that one of the all-time greats may call it a day at the end of the year.

Since the World Championships Anderson has rediscovered some love for darts and has been practising hard with fellow PDC professional Ryan Searle as the pair live close to each other.

Talking with us at the PDC Masters Anderson says for the first time in years he is enjoying the sport again.

“Not as good as I wanted it to go. I’ve been putting in so much practice with Ryan (Searle) and I have been playing really well and for me to say that is something else. Doubles tonight, a bit shaky. But it’s been going well in practice,”

“I’ve been hitting every finish you could leave me. So a bit annoyed it’s not been going up there but new year, fresh start. Lot to learn again.”

“It’s hard to do something you don’t want to do. The boss has been on at me, Ryan even says if you play like this in practice, if you do it on stage you’re back to normal. I have played darts a long time and it is in my blood so might as well bite the bullet and get back to the board.”

Euro Tour Return?

In this new mindset that Anderson has, the Scotsman even hint that he might return and play some of the Euro Tour, something that he hasn’t done since 2015.

“Maybe a bit more than I’m usually in.”

“What up to Scotland. Don’t put me off I’m just starting to enjoy it again,” he said with a smile when asked if that involves a plane.

“The only problem is if a top four player gets beat by a 22 seed, it doesn’t look good on their resume. But main thing is I’m back enjoying playing darts and what will happen will happen.”
