Glen Durrant “Since August something has crept into my game and it’s affected my confidence.”

Glen “Duzza” Durrant begins his Premier League Darts title defence next week. But the Teessider doesn’t arrive with the form and confidence he carried into last year’s tournament. Tipped by many as a relegation favourite, the three time BDO World Champion talked to Online Darts to share his thoughts ahead of his Premier League Darts defence.

Duzza admitted, “Since August something has crept into my game. And it’s affected my confidence. It’s been a very difficult period”

When asked if he had identified what it was that had slipped into his game, Glen admitted he hadn’t. “I’m trying so many things whether it’s the mind, technique, breathing, a change of equipment… I’ve tried many things but the back to basics approach. Back to the pear flights that got me a 117 average on tour, beat Michael Van Gerwen in Blackpool. I’ve tried pretty much everything. I think that huge game against Nathan could be exactly what i need right now.

Asked about the change in format for this year’s Premier League, Durrant expressed disappointment to miss out on nights with fans in Dublin and Newcastle. “You can not beat the crowds. But there’s no moaning from me. For me this is the second biggest tournament in the world. It’s an absolute joy to be in the premier league and if I can get half the experience that I had last year then I’ll be a happy man.

Glen Durrant begins his Premier league Darts title defence on Monday against Nathan Aspinall

“I’m definitely a TV player, I play my best games there”

Looking ahead to next week’s Premier league Durrant explained “I’m definitely a TV player, I play my best games there” Whilst his recent form has left a lot to be desired the defending champion shared his thoughts on his chances. “I’ve looked at the predictions where I’m going to come plum bottom. I can understand that. If I was a race horse my last three races would be nowhere, fell and pulled up. I understand the situation I’m in. Live on Sky, Premier League, if that doesn’t lift me nothing will.”

The 10 man Premier League field isn’t in the best of form right now and Duzza thinks there are a few that will be hard done by and think they should be in.”You’ve got to feel for people like James Wade, Joe Cullen, Chizzy, and Michael Smith who I would have in the premier league every year, he’s so exciting to watch.

Durrant kicks off his 2021 Premier League campaign on Monday 5th April where he will play Nathan Aspinall in a repeat of last year’s final. You can check out what the OD team make of Glen’s chances here
