Henderson to make his World Seniors Darts TV debut at the Matchplay.

Scottish World Cup star John Henderson will make his World Seniors Darts TV debut later this year at the World Seniors Matchplay.

Henderson and Peter Wright won the PDC World Cup of Darts barely two years ago. Since then, The Highlander has turned 50 and, given his form in 2023, joins the field as one to watch.

The 16-player field will battle it out live on BT Sport between the 2nd and 3rd of September at The Barbican in York in a bid to dethrone Robert Thornton. Last year, the Thorn won the inaugural Matchplay tournament in Hull.

Phil Taylor and Martin Adams, two WSDT TV ever-presents, will both be in the field once again, as two of the most successful players of all time target their first World Seniors title.

John Part will lead a trio from North America to York. The reigning World Seniors Master David Cameron and Champion of Champions Leonard Gates will join the three-time World Champion.

Trina Gulliver, Neil Duff, and Glen Durrant have already accepted invitations, with Kevin Painter rounding out the field so far.

One more invitational spot is still available, and it will be awarded to the World Seniors Masters Winner if they are not currently in the field. If the winner’s place has already been confirmed, a second invitation will be issued.

Four more players will be selected for the event over a qualifying weekend in Reading on July 28th-30th.  Those 4 players will be made up of 2 individual qualifier event winners, the Order or Merit Leader, and the Money List leader.

Billy Lovell of the World Seniors Darts Tour said:

“We are really excited to be taking such a great line up to The Barbican in York, and we know it will get even better following the qualifying weekend. The first two TV tournaments of the year delivered great drama and quality on the oche, and we are sure the JenningsBet World Seniors Matchplay will be no different.”
