Paul Lim after World Darts Championship win: “I’m still capable and good enough”

Paul Lim says he’s “still capable and good enough” to compete at the top level of darts after his comeback win against Luke Humphries at the World Darts Championship.

The 66 year old from Singapore was 2-0 down, but fought back remarkably to secure a 3-2 win. It’s the 25th time Paul Lim has played at a World Darts Championship.

“I’m still capable and good enough, that’s why I play on”

When asked in his press conference what keeps him motivated, Lim, who hit the first ever nine dart finish at a World Championship, said it was down to his own expectations.

“Because I’ve been at the top for a long time, wherever I go, any tournament I go to in the darts circle, people have always looked up to me. That’s one part of it.

“But, I think the most important thing is that I’ve always loved this game so much. I’ve always loved the competition.”

He added that “I still have the fight to fight for it. I’m still capable and good enough, so that’s why I carry on.”

Lim also discussed why he will not be making an appearance at Q-School in 2021. His simple answer was “I can’t really. I’ve got a job.

“For me to just run away somewhere and play darts full time, I can’t do that.”

Lim looks ahead

Lim was also asked about his second round opponent in the shape of Dimitri Van den Bergh.

“I know him very well. We have good vibes about each other.

“There are some darts players that I don’t talk much to, but with Dimitri he’s always been very polite. I like the guy, I think he’s a friendly guy.

“I take my hat off to him. In such a short space of time, he’s actually jumped to the top and did well. My aim next is to try and put a stop to that. Hopefully I could anyway!”
