The draw for the 2020 Boyle Sports World Grand Prix has been confirmed this morning. There have been some mouthwatering ties thrown up, as defending champion Michael van Gerwen will start the defence of his title against the dangerous Krzysztof Ratajski.
The World Grand Prix is always a special tournament due to its unique double in start. This year the World Grand Prix will be played away from the Citywest in Dublin. Behind close doors at the Richo Arena in Coventry is the temporary home of the World Grand Prix. The tournament will be played 6-12 October.
The World Grand Prix field is comprised of the top 16 players from the main PDC Order of Merit. Then the next best 16 from the one year Pro Tour Order of Merit.
World number one and defending champion Michael van Gerwen has won the World Grand Prix on five occasions. But I can’t remember him having a tougher opening game than this year. Krzysztof Ratajski lays in wait for MvG, as the Polish Eagle is on his way to the worlds top ten. This could be the nightmare tie for van Gerwen.
World Champion Peter Wright kicks off his title quest gaunt debutante Ryan Joyce. Wright was a runner up in this tournament in 2018
Gary Anderson was another one of the unseeded players that the top eight were looking to avoid. The back to back world champion has slid out of the worlds top 8 and has become the jack in the box. It’s 5th seed Rob Cross who drew the Flying Scotsman in the opening round in a game that will get tongues wagging.
The schedule will be confirmed in due course.
