Left until the last match, Gurney knocked out Van der Voort in a battle of former Euro Tour winners . Gurney won the first three legs, before Van der Voort missed ten darts to get on the board. Simon Whitlock battled through in the penultimate game on day one. He hit a 98.2 average to defeat Darren Webster 6-4. The former European Champion takes on Damon Heta for a place in the last 16.
This is the first time that the PDC has ever hosted a Euro Tour event in Hungary. However, despite a stunning arena in Budapest, the crowd could not help the home nation qualifiers move into round two.
