Euro Tour day one sees Gurney beat Van der Voort
Daryl Gurney defeated Vincent van der Voort in the headline clash on day one of the first Euro Tour event of the year.
Superchin beat The Dutch Destroyer 6-2 to set up a meeting with Michael van Gerwen on day two of the first ever Hungarian Darts Trophy.
Elsewhere, Steve Beaton and Adrian Lewis were knocked out, while teenagers Bradley Brooks, Lewis Williams, Keane Barry and Adam Gawlas all joined the last 32 line up.
Gurney leads list of players into round two
Left until the last match, Gurney knocked out Van der Voort in a battle of former Euro Tour winners . Gurney won the first three legs, before Van der Voort missed ten darts to get on the board. He eventually found double one to cut the gap to 3-1, but Superchin won three more holds to set up the meeting with MvG.
Brooks and Lewis played out the game of the day. Jackpot was 4-2 down, but he forced a last leg decider, where he missed four match darts to complete the comeback. Brooks, who missed a dart for a 152 to clinch it, eventually hit double one to end a fantastic game. He’ll face Nathan Aspinall in the last game on Saturday afternoon.
Another quality game saw Beaton face off against John Michael. A back and fourth contest eventually went to an 11th and final leg, in which The Bronzed Adonis found a 180 to leave 28 after 12. However, after throwing first, the Greek player Michael cleaned up 40 in 14 to take the victory and set up a tie with Michael Smith.
Simon Whitlock battled through in the penultimate game on day one. He hit a 98.2 average to defeat Darren Webster 6-4. The former European Champion takes on Damon Heta for a place in the last 16.
Hungarian hopes dashed on day one
This is the first time that the PDC has ever hosted a Euro Tour event in Hungary. However, despite a stunning arena in Budapest, the crowd could not help the home nation qualifiers move into round two.
Janos Vegso was the closest to pulling off victory, missing match darts to beat Joe Murnan in a last leg decider. Murnan eventually got over the line 6-5 and plays Jose De Sousa next.
Elsewhere, Gabor Jagica lost 6-3 to the impressive debutant Lewis Williams, while fellow first time Euro player Alan Soutar thrashed Jozsef Rucska 6-1. Williams will take on Krzysztof Ratajski in round two, while Soutar faces Brendan Dolan.
Ross Smith though produced the highest average of the day, as the former Pro Tour winner beat Peter Stribk 6-0, averaging 100.2. Smudger was the only player to top a ton average, and Rob Cross awaits him in the opening game on Saturday.

Keane Barry also won on his Euro Tour debut. He fought back from 2-0 to win six of the next seven legs, beating Thomas Lovely 6-3. He faces Dirk van Duijvenbode tomorrow.
