Darts Walk-On Girls to Return after six-and-a-half-year absents
Darts walk-on are making a comeback to TV competition after a six-and-a-half-year hiatus.
Charlotte Wood and Daniella Allfree will be making a comeback to television. Years after their shocking PDC exit, the two women will return to televised events on the World Seniors Darts Tour (WSDT).
Daniella and Charlotte were the PDC’s walk-on girls for many years in their main tournaments. Following discussions between the PDC and the major TV rights holders in 2018, that abruptly ended.
When the 16-time world darts champion Phil Taylor throws at the World Seniors Matchplay on October 4-5, he will be led to the oche by attractive models.
TNT, the BBC Red Button, iPlayer, and the senior tungsten throwers competition, which is taking place at York’s Barbican, will all carry it.
The contentious action generated international attention and polarised opinion; some believed it to be a sexist role for women in the twenty-first century, while others referred to it as “political correctness gone crazy.”
“We are so happy to be have been asked to represent WSDT in an ambassadorial role”, said Daniella. “It’s so pleasing to be able to be involved in the sport in any capacity, but this is a real honour”.
Charlotte is also excited to serve as a walk-on girl again. “Me and Daniella are really looking forward to being a part of WSDT events, and especially meeting the fans and being at the side of the players as they walk on”, she said. “It’s a pleasure to accept this role, and it’s one that we look forward to getting started on in York”.
Jason Francis expressed through the World Seniors Darts Tour that they are proud to partner with the two walk-on girls.
“We are really pleased to be able to welcome Daniella and Charlotte as WSDT Ambassadors. They always bring the glitz and glamour to the sport, and it will be no different in York. The players will have that extra stardust alongside them when doing their world-famous walk ons, and it will add further prestige to what should be an amazing tournament and event”.
