Luke Humphries not scared of van Gerwen ahead of quarterfinal clash “ But I know he’s human and I know he can have mistakes in him

Humphries advanced to the Grand Slam of Darts Quarter-Finals with a win over Ross Smith, but he admits he wasn’t at his best, blaming it on a lack of energy and possibly not eating enough, and admits he will have to make amends against Michael van Gerwen.

“He can also be human, 2017 first to 16 you probably discount your chance before you even get up on the stage. But I know he’s human and I know he can have mistakes in him. I’ve beat him in long distance games before. I know I can do it and that’s the key.”

“It wasn’t the game I expected, in the last hour and a half before I went on the stage I just felt so flat, so tired and I think I showed it in my performance. I was literally hanging on every thread there to just keep going and when I went to the second break, I tried to get quicker and tried to keep my brain going. I just fall flat and feel tired, I’ve obviously got to sort out some eating. I’ve got to address that,”

“I’ve got a big game on Saturday, I’m going to have to be a lot more energetic. It’s hard to pinpoint it, I had a great nights’ sleep last night. I’ve been going home in-between sessions so I had a great nights sleep. I’ve just got to build up the energy levels.”
