Michael van Gerwen criticises the Grand Slam format ”I think that’s wrong but I’ve been saying that for years.”
In recent years there has been much talk about the Grand Slam of Darts format. The Grand Slam used to be the cross-code competition between the PDC and the BDO, but in recent years the dynamics of the tournament have changed.
The Grand Slam is now a ranked event, and there are no longer players from outside the PDC.
One of the main grievances with many is after the group stages because players that met at that stage, meet again in the last 16.
Michael van Gerwen is not the first player to speak out on this, but the PDC show no signs in mankind any changes.
Van Gerwen started by saying ”I think that’s wrong but I’ve been saying that for years.”
Van Gerwen then made his own recommendation for how it should be done. ”If you play someone in the group, you only can face in the final. That’s the way it is in my opinion, but this format has been as it is”
