Price out of the World Cup of Darts
Gerwyn Price has been ruled out of the 2024 BetVictor World Cup of Darts, and Jim Williams will replace him in the Wales team for this weekend’s event.
Price and Jonny Clayton won the World Cup for the second time last summer and were scheduled to contend for a third title in the Doubles tournament in Frankfurt.
However, the world’s number four has been ruled out due to health concerns.
This is a huge blow to the Welsh team’s hopes of defending the title they won for the second time 12 months ago. Price had shown signs that his best form was returning having won the World Series event in Copenhagen.
“I’m massively disappointed that I’m having to miss the World Cup and I always love representing Wales,” said Price.
“I wish Jonny and Jim Williams the best of luck this weekend and hopefully they can bring back the title again!”
Price is replaced by Williams, the second highest-ranked Welsh player on the PDC Order of Merit, who will make his World Cup debut this weekend.
Under PDC Rules, with the World Cup of Darts group stage draw completed, Wales retains their place as the second seeds and will compete in Saturday’s second round at the Eissporthalle.
