Wessel Nijman added a second PDC ProTour title of 2025 to his résumé after winning the season-ending Players Championship 34 in Wigan.

The Dutchman dug deep when he looked on the brink of falling short against Luke Woodhouse in the final, reeling off three consecutive legs of 13, 14 and 14 darts.

As a result of the £15,000 prize money he earned, the 25-year-old will start the Players Championship Finals as the second seed behind 2021 World Champion Gerwyn Price.

He will open his campaign in Section Three of the draw, facing fellow countryman Richard Veenstra in a best-of-11-leg format in Minehead.

“I’m very happy with this win,” shared Nijman in his post-match interview with the PDC.

“I’m feeling pretty confident when I play here on the ProTour, and I’m hoping I can bring that on to the stage in Minehead.

“I know what I’m capable of. I know I can play at this really high level, but I think every player would agree that a major tournament is different to a ProTour event.“

“Sometimes it comes down to a little bit of luck, and hopefully I can have that little bit of luck and get more results on the big stage.”

Nijman continues to ride the crest of a wave as he climbs to a career-best 34th in the world following the conclusion of the 2025 ProTour.

The Dutchman returns to Minehead for his second consecutive appearance in the Players Championship Finals, having lost 6–1 to Belgian star Kim Huybrechts in the first round on his debut visit.

His consistency has placed him on an upward trajectory, highlighted by debut appearances at the World Matchplay and World Grand Prix, as he continues to prove himself a genuine prospect with the potential to go far in the game.
