Night Twelve Liverpool Preview as the O2 gets closer

Jonny Clayton will look to strengthen his grip on top spot in the BetMGM Premier League when the competition heads to Liverpool Arena for Night Twelve on Thursday.

The Welshman has been the standout performer so far, building a five-point cushion at the summit after an exceptional run that has seen him collect four nightly victories from the opening 11 weeks. That tally includes back-to-back wins in Brighton and Rotterdam, underlining his consistency during the campaign.

Clayton faces a tough opening test against home favourite Stephen Bunting, a player he has already beaten twice in three meetings this season. Despite sitting comfortably in the standings and appearing well on course for Finals Night at The O2, Clayton has made it clear he is not easing off.

“We’re all out to win nights and get points, so two nightly wins on the trot is great – it puts a smile on my face,” said Clayton.

“I don’t give up. I’ve been behind a few times and still came through and won.

“Twenty-nine points is a good score to be on. Hopefully it’s enough for the Play-Offs and I’m there.

“I’ve got five weeks left and hopefully I can win five of them!”

Clayton’s Gerwyn Price has also enjoyed a strong season and currently occupies third place, having claimed nightly victories in Antwerp and Manchester. Price arrives in Liverpool full of confidence after capturing his tenth European Tour title at the weekend, continuing an impressive run of form.

The former World Champion boasts the best checkout percentage in this year’s Premier League and will aim to carry that clinical finishing into his quarter-final clash against Gian van Veen, who celebrates his 24th birthday on the night.

“Thankfully I won this one, and hopefully it will give me a bit of confidence going forward,” Price said following his success in Sindelfingen.

“That was the first ProTour event I’ve played in for over a month, and I needed it as on Thursday [in Rotterdam] I was a little bit rusty.

“Going into this week, I’ve got a tough game against Gian up in Liverpool, but I’m full of confidence now and hopefully I can build on this.”

Another standout tie sees Luke Littler take on Luke Humphries in a crucial clash in the race for the Play-Offs. Littler, the reigning World Champion, sits second in the table on 24 points, while defending Premier League champion Humphries is currently outside the top four and has ground to make up.

Elsewhere, Michael van Gerwen meets Josh Rock in another key encounter. Van Gerwen is aiming to strengthen his bid for a Play-Off place, while Rock continues to build momentum, having won his last four quarter-final matches to keep his hopes alive.

With just a handful of weeks remaining before Finals Night, every point is becoming increasingly valuable, and Night Twelve in Liverpool could prove pivotal in shaping the race for the top four. As London edges closer for the final four that will fight for the title at the end of May.
