Price prevails in Nottingham to go second in Cazoo Premier League
Gerwyn Price has risen to second in the Cazoo Premier League table following his second night win of the season on Thursday in Nottingham.
Price defeated Chris Dobey 6-4 in the final at the Motorpoint Arena, after beginning the night with a 6-4 victory over fellow Welsh star Jonny Clayton and then defeating Dimitri van den Bergh by the same scoreline in the semi-finals.
Price’s night win avenges the seven-match darts he missed in the Night Four final in Dublin, doubling his tally of night wins as he attempts to reach the Play-Offs for the first time.
“I thought I played pretty well tonight, I just missed a few doubles which let people in games,” Price reflected.
“I’ve been playing well for the last couple of weeks, but players just keep pipping me in games.
“I was really edgy against Jonny, I very rarely feel as nervous as I did in that game; I knew I could slip down the table if I lost so I needed that win and then I found my feet in the last two matches.
“The crowds have been good for me the last couple of weeks and that makes me play better, hopefully, I can kick on and make the Play-Offs.”
Meanwhile, Dobey ended Michael van Gerwen’s ten-match winning streak emphatically, whitewashing the league leader 6-0 in the semi-finals to earn his first three league points since the start of the season.
Van Gerwen and Dimitri Van den Bergh leave the East Midlands with two points each after quarter-final victories over Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall, respectively.
