Sherrock becomes the first woman to hit a PDC nine-darter

Fallon Sherrock made darting history again on Saturday in Hildesheim, becoming the first woman to hit a nine-dart finish in a PDC event.

Sherrock won Event Nine of the Winmau Challenge Tour, which concluded its second weekend of competition with another double-header at Halle 39.

In Hildesheim, Ron Meulenkamp and Dragutin Horvat won titles, but Sherrock stole the show with a spectacular nine-darter in the third leg of her opening round tie against Marco Verhofstad.

The 28-year-old followed up back-to-back 180s with the magical 141 checkout, but she had to hold off a late rally from Dutch thrower Verhofstad, converting a 116 combination to secure a 5-3 victory.

After defeating German star Max Hopp in round two with an average of over 99, she continued her charge to the last 16, where she was defeated by former Lakeside Championship winner Christian Kist.

Sherrock is no stranger to making history, having become the first woman to win on the Alexandra Palace stage in 2019 with victories over Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic.

In her World Series of Darts debut in 2020, the Milton Keynes star also reached the final, before becoming the first female player to reach a TV ranking quarter-final at the 2021 Grand Slam of Darts.

Sherrock recently won the inaugural Betfred Women’s World Matchplay title, and she came agonisingly close to earning a PDC Tour Card at Qualifying School in January.

The history-maker will return to PDC action in May, when the third weekend of the Winmau Challenge Tour takes place at Milton Keynes’ Marshall Arena from May 5-7.

Sherrock is also expected to compete in the next round of the PDC Women’s Series, which will be held on May 13-14 at the Marshall Arena.
