Ross Montgomery seals glory at the Tavern as the Scot is crowned World Seniors Darts World Champion

At the Circus Tavern, Ross Montgomery became the 2025 World Seniors Darts Championship champion, taking home the £30,000 top prize! In Saturday night’s final, “The Boss” defeated Graham Usher 5-1, continuing the Scottish winning streak and following in the footsteps of previous champions John Henderson and Robert Thornton.

Early on, there were reasonable nervousness because this was the first world final for both players. However, Montgomery ultimately won the first leg on double one, which appeared to calm the Scot, as he won the second leg in twelve darts after opening with five immaculate darts. Shortly after, the Scot sealed the set.

After a few missed darts on the outer ring, Usher finally got off the mark in the second set, eventually pinning double 5. However, the Englishman finally appeared at ease after the relief of that first double, winning the second set with relative ease to tie the match.

It reached the decisive leg in a close third set. Montgomery had the advantage of throwing in it, but Usher’s scoring ability was too much for the Scot to handle. However, the Scot sealed the set after Usher blew ten set darts.

Montgomery moved 3-1 lead, two strokes from victory, and Usher’s burst of six perfect darts into the nine in the fourth set was insufficient to take the set.

However, there was real tension between the two on stage, as Usher became clearly irritated at his rival. However, Usher was allowing his annoyances to overcome him, and Montgomery punished his opponent’s lack of concentration to lead 4-1 going into the second half.

Montgomery won the first leg of set 6 by punishing more Usher misses. Montgomery was then just one leg away from winning after a 14-dart hold of throw.

Montgomery eventually sealed the victory and the World Seniors Championship championship after nine darts on his own darts, despite Usher pulling one leg back.

On stage after, Montgomery said: “I played last year. Jason had set up the Seniors tour. Daryl Fitton was at me for ages when I got my card. ‘You’re coming to seniors.’ I’ve arrived and I have loved every single minute of it.”

Montgomery picked up the whopping £30,000 winner’s prize and started to cry as he said: “I came here with the fantastic news I’m going to be a grandad.

“They don’t put averages on trophies. There are fantastic players in the seniors that have been here long before. My big brother Martin Adams taught me how to play. Honestly, I’m over the moon.

“I dedicate this to my two grandchildren that are coming soon. It’s going to be a good year but I don’t know if I’ve got time to play darts!”

The Scot heaped praise on Usher after their match.

He said: “Graham has kicked my a*** many times because he’s a fantastic player. I told him on stage ‘Graham, just calm down and be yourself son’.

“If you win, you win. Just calm down. This is all about a game of darts. Graham is a fantastic player; he will be back. He will be kicking backsides.

“I was watching him in the practice room earlier and I was like ‘I’m not watching this anymore’ and I walked out. He was hitting 180, 180, 177. I was like, ‘Graham, sit down and give someone else a shot on the practice board.’”
