World Matchplay Day Eight – Nine Dart Price To Face MvG In The Final.

Gerwyn Price hit perfection on his way to the final and will face Michael van Gerwen on Sunday evening.

Perfection For Price

Gerwyn Price continued his impressive form with a 17-11 win over Danny Noppert securing his place in his first World Matchplay Final.

In the early stages of the game there was nothing to split them with six legs shared, then Price got out of first gear and found the next three legs which included a 107 checkout.

Danny Noppert stopped the rot with a clinical 87 checkout. After the break they both held onto their throw, Until it was time for perfection.

It’s been four years since our last nine darter in Blackpool, with Gerwyn Price after his fourth on TV, after hitting back-to-back 180’s, he went down the board for treble 19, before a treble 20 dart in the middle of the bed before perfection with a double 12.

The Iceman followed it up with a 180 in the next leg and won the next two to lead 10-5 at the break. Noppert need to react, and he did winning next three of the next four legs. He had his opportunity to make it four out of five but he missed three darts at a double for the first time in this tournament and Price punished.

Them misses impacted Noppert and Price followed that leg up with winning the next three to move just two legs away.

Noppert followed it up with three of his own, however he knew he needed something special to turn this game around, with a 132 checkout available, he hit 25 and treble 19 but was unable to find bullseye which allowed Price to move one away.

That seemed to be the final nail in the Coffin for the 2022 UK Open Champion, and it was a 14 dart leg for Price and Matchplay Finalist for the first time.

MvG Back Into a Matchplay

The DreamMaker started the brighter with a 4-1 lead at the first interval. Michael will feel he should of won the last leg but early double trouble lead to the chance for Dimi.

MvG won three of the next four legs, which included the second shortest leg of darts of the night a 10 darter to level it up at 4-4.

Dimitri wasn’t allowing Michael to get the lead in the early stages and he got another break and to lead by two once more but MvG getting biting back and closed the gap to one at the second interval.

Four holds of throw followed before Dimi found a crucial break once more this time a 100 checkout on tops to lead 11-9.

Dimitri did extend his lead once more and lead by three at 13-10 but his scoring seemed to drop and MvG was starting to find another gear or two.

This started to show more and more and Michael won three legs on the spin for the first time in the game. Dimi made it 14-13 with the biggest checkout of the game a 116.

Michael was determined to make another World Matchplay title and he went on a rampage winning four straight legs to set up a Final against Gerwyn Price.
