Chris Mason expects UK Open to take place at Milton Keynes, behind closed doors.

With the 2021 PDC calendar yet to be revealed, ITV pundit Mason believes that Stadium MK will be the venue for this year’s UK Open.

“I think it will be behind closed doors. Milton Keynes and around the same dates I would have thought.”

“Butlins would be big enough, if the restrictions were lifted.”

“We could have a certain amount, but the problem with that is, if you think how much it costs, just to heat Butlins and to staff it. I don’t think it would be viable.”

With the last five years of the UK Open being held at Butlins Resort, Minehead, it’s certainly one he will really miss if the venue changes

“It’s my favourite two trips a year down there, My two trips to Butlins, I absolutely love it down there. I get a great chance to mix with all the fans and have a laugh.”

“But, I’m not sure there would be a way around this year. It’s too risky.”

The Field

Chris Mason also discussed how he expected the field to look. With the UK open normally having a number of Riley’s amateur qualifiers. Is this an opportunity for the PDC to open up more spots for people on the Challenge Tour.

“I think it would be nice for Challenge Tour players to get the opportunity to experience the UK Open, although in a diluted form.”

“We have the ability to do it timing wise. So why not chuck in the 128 (PDC Tour Card Holders), and then put the top 32 from the Challenge Tour.”
