Sherrock and Thornton seal Q-School stage 2 qualification
On Tuesday, Fallon Sherrock and Robert Thornton were among the final automatic qualifiers for the Final Stage of the 2022 PDC Qualifying Schools, while Fallon Sherrock also advanced to fight for a PDC Tour Card.
Thornton, a former World Grand Prix and UK Open champion, was one of eight players to qualify automatically for the Final Stage at the UK Qualifying School in Milton Keynes over the next four days.
Jim McEwan, Welsh duo Mike Warburton and Justin Smith, England’s George Killington, Dan Read and David Pallett, and Canada’s Jacob Taylor – who is participating outside of North America for the first time – were among those that advanced.
The four players that advanced from Group A in the European Qualifying School to clinch an automatic spot in the Final Stage included Dutch ace Chris Landman, who recently reached the second round of the World Championship.
Arjan Konterman, Danny Jansen, and Martijn Dragt, all from the Netherlands, also advanced from Group A.
With their victory in Group B, Patrick van den Boogaard and Vincent van der Meer joined Austrian Michael Rasztovits and Danish Andreas Toft Jorgensen, who also competed in the Nordic Darts Masters last year, to make it six Dutch players to advance automatically.
Sherrock, a 2021 Nordic Darts Masters finalist, and Arron Monk, a former World Youth Champion, are among the Order of Merit qualifiers from the First Stage in Milton Keynes, while emerging American Danny Lauby, along with Simon Stevenson, Kevin Burness, and Darren Johnson, topped the rankings with eight points.
Previous JDC junior stars Leighton Bennett and Josh Richardson, as well as veterans Richie Burnett and Andy Jenkins, Diogo Portela of Brazil, and former World Championship semi-finalist Jamie Lewis, advanced.
Ben Robb, who competed in the World Championship last month, missed the bull for win against Connor Scutt on Tuesday in a pivotal match that would have sent the New Zealander to the Final Stage alongside countryman Haupai Puha.
Three-time World Champion John Part, as well as former TV event finalists Wes Newton, Mark Dudbridge, Colin Osborne, and Barrie Bates, were among those who failed to qualify for the First Stage.
Past PDC ranking event champion Benito van de Pas and World Cup finalist Ronny Huybrechts were among the European Order of Merit qualifiers, as were Christian Kist and former World Championship qualifiers Nico Kurz and Rene Eidams.
Johan Engstrom of Sweden took first place with 10 points, followed by Alexander Merkx, Jimmy Hendriks, and Maikel Verberk.
