Van Gerwen and Aspinall go head to head in Aberdeen with the O2 calling for one of them

Aberdeen hosts the penultimate night of league phase play on Thursday, continuing the 2025 Premier League season.

As the struggle for Play-Off qualifying continues on Scottish soil, Night 15 of this year’s competition will take place on Thursday, May 15, at the P&J Live.

One seat at The O2 in London is still up for grabs, but Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, and Gerwyn Price have all confirmed their Play-Off spots.

As Night 15 approaches, seven-time Premier League winner Michael van Gerwen is in fourth place, with Nathan Aspinall one point behind him in fifth.

​​In the first match of the evening, Van Gerwen and Aspinall will square off in a match that might have major consequences for both athletes.

In this year’s roadshow, Aspinall has defeated Van Gerwen three times, and a victory on Thursday will put the Stockport star back in the Play-Off spots.

After finishing second in Cardiff and Birmingham, Van Gerwen can confirm his Play-Off qualification if he wins in Aberdeen for the first time this season.

Price or Stephen Bunting will face the victor of Thursday’s first matchup in the second round that evening.

Runner-up in 2023 Price, who has won three nights this year in Dublin, Nottingham, and Liverpool, will play in the Play-Offs for the second time later this month.

“The pressure is off a bit now, but I still want to win,” insisted Price, who could be set to experiment with a new set-up as he continues his preparation for The O2.

“I might be using a new set of darts tomorrow night and next week, but we’ll see how I feel tomorrow.

“I’m not feeling the grip quite right with my own darts, but I’ve got nothing to lose so it could be a good opportunity to use a new set of darts on the biggest of stages.

“I believe if my play my A-game, then there’s no way I will lose. Every time I go on stage I expect to bring my best game out, but it doesn’t always happen!”

Bunting, meanwhile, celebrated his first nighttime victory of the season last month when he overcame Price in the Berlin final. However, he is now playing for dignity after his chances of finishing in the top four were dashed in Leeds.

On Night 14 at the First Direct Arena, Humphries prevailed over Van Gerwen, Bunting, and Littler to earn his third consecutive victory of the season and maintain his slim hopes of taking first place.

The world number one is currently seven points behind table-topper Littler, and when they rematch in the quarterfinals, he will have the chance to close the gap.

If Littler defeats Humphries, who acknowledges that he already has one eye on the Play-Offs in two weeks, he will win the league phase for the second consecutive year.

“You know have to raise your game against Luke,” admitted Humphries, who has won three of his six games against Littler in this year’s competition.

“You have to perform at a really high level otherwise you won’t have a chance.

“When I played Luke in Newcastle I had no answer to his performance, but when I’m at my best, I know I can push him.

“Winning in Leeds last week will give me great confidence, but the goal now is to be Premier League champion. Whatever happens in the next two weeks, that’s my focus.”

Rob Cross and Chris Dobey will also compete elsewhere in Aberdeen, both of whom want to hold onto their slim prospects of making the playoffs.

Cross must make it to his first nightly final of 2025 in order to maintain any aspirations of snagging a Play-Off spot, while Dobey needs to win both of the previous league nights in order to have any chance of earning a spot in the top four.
