Luke Humphries beat Luke Littler for the first time in the Premier League Darts to win night four of this year’s event.

The world number one and Winmau World Masters Champion defeated the defending Premier League winner 6-4 to take victory at the Westpoint Arena, Exeter.

It moves Cool Hand Luke seven points clear at the top of the table after night four, as he took his second nightly win in his third final of this year’s event.

Humphries heads to Minehead full of confidence

The Nuke had come into this match having won all six of the pair’s previous Premier League Darts meetings, including In a the week three final this year, and the Premier League Darts final last year in which he hit a nine darter. Humphries though, finally has broken the streak.

Littler began the final with an excellent 144 outshot, before breaking in the fourth leg to go 3-1 in front. Humphries though broke straight back in the fifth leg, before an 11 darter levelled the contest at 3-3.

Two holds of throw followed, before the big moment came in the 10th leg. Littler missed two darts to go one away, allowing the world number one to ping double top and move 5-4 ahead. Humphries then wrapped up the game and the nightly win on throw, hitting double 12 for a 13 darter and the 6-4 victory.

It gives a further boost of confidence for the world number one heading into the UK Open this weekend, where he will look to go one better than last year where he lost the final to Dimitri Van den Bergh in a last leg decider.

Humphries started his night by getting revenge for last week’s final loss to Gerwyn Price. The Iceman missed six missed darts in the 10th leg to send it all the way, and despite missing multiple chances to wrap it up in the same leg himself, he eventually won 6-4.

He then faced Rob Cross in the semi final, going 3-1 up before Voltage pulled the game back to 3-3. The game went all the way, before the world number one found an excellent 116 in the decider to move into the final.

Littler started his evening with a 6-3 victory over Stephen Bunting in his quarter final. The Nuke was astonishing, hit 10 180s and averaged 112.34, with The Bullet averaging 104.89 in the process.

The Nuke then followed that up with a 109.67 average against Nathan Aspinall in his semi final, defeating The Asp 6-2 in which he hit a 130 checkout in the opening leg and a two tops outshot for 105, before ending the game with an 81 finish on the bull.

What else happened?

Cross added to his points tally in Exeter despite his defeat to Humphries in the semi final, as he won 6-5 against seven time Premier League Darts champion Michael van Gerwen 6-5 in the opening quarter final of the night. The Green Machine missed three darts for the match in the final leg, allowing Voltage to ping double four to take victory.

Although Aspinall ran into an incredible Littler, he still got two more points on the board at the Westpoint. His quarter final also went all the way against Chris Dobey, with the game featuring nine 180s. In the deciding leg however, The Asp found double 16 to finish the contest and win 6-5.

It means that The Bullet is still the only player yet to get off the mark in this year’s event, with night five taking place next Thursday in Brighton.
