At the start of the day, Martin Adams was on the hunt for a hat-trick of MODUS Sports Icons of Darts Live League titles. Adams had been far too good for the rest of the field in the opening two days of the Icons of Darts. Could the rest bridge the gap to Wolfie?
Adams would open up the day, with one of the tighter-looking games on paper. Boris Koltsov was hoping to stomp Adams at the first attempt, and not let the favourite get into a lead in the table.
Sadly for everyone else, Koltsov wasn’t up to the task, and Adams started the day with two points following a 5-2 victory. Wolfie would also make light work of Mark Dudbridge in tye third game of the day. Running out a 5-1 victor.
Adams had to survive a scare in his third game, as Diogo Portela took the former world champi0j to a last-leg shootout. Adams held his nerve to win the match 5-4 making it 6 points from three games.
After the lunch break, Adams would continue his charge towards the title. With a 5-2 defeat of Jose Justicia. Wolfie would now go into his last game of the day against Jerred Cole, knowing fate was in his own hands. A win would hand him the title and clean sweep for the day.
Cole was also in the hunt for the title ahead of the game with Adams. Cole had won his first two games but could afford no mistake if he wanted to win the title.
The pair shared the opening legs in a keenly fought contest, with everything on the line. It was Cole who took control of the match and inflicted Adams first defeat of the day. Cole winning 5-3 put destiny in his hand, know that if he won his last two games, he would win the title.
Adams would have to sit and watch the final games knowing there was nothing he could do but hope. Cole’s first test was against Justicia, who himself wasn’t having the best of day. You could see from the off the Cole knew what was on the line, as he didn’t have the same freedom as he had against Adams. The pressure was all too much for Cole, as he went down to a 5-4 defeat, cost him a shot at the title in his final game. The loss also handed a third title of the week to Adams.
