Sheffield is the final stop of the league phase of the Premier League

The 2026 BetMGM Premier League league phase reaches its conclusion on Thursday night, with Sheffield’s Utilita Arena set to host a blockbuster Night 16 as the sport’s biggest stars prepare for Finals Night at The O2.

While the four Play-Off places have already been secured, there is still plenty on the line heading into the final evening of league action, with reigning champion Luke Humphries looking to build momentum and Luke Littler targeting yet another slice of Premier League history.

Humphries heads to South Yorkshire fresh from finally claiming his first nightly victory of the 2026 campaign in Birmingham last week.

The world number two produced a string of sensational performances to triumph on Night 15, defeating Stephen Bunting and league leader Littler with averages of 107 and 111 respectively, before overcoming Gerwyn Price in the final to secure qualification for Finals Night.

That victory ensured Humphries will defend his Premier League crown at London’s O2 Arena next week alongside Littler, Jonny Clayton and Price.

Now, the Englishman is hoping to continue his superb recent form after also capturing Players Championship 17 in Leicester earlier this week with a remarkable tournament average of 104.74.

“It would have hurt me a lot if I didn’t make Finals Night,” admitted Humphries ahead of Thursday’s action.

“When it clicks for me, it clicks for me! When it does, I think people see I’m one of the best players in the world.

“It sets a standard for myself; I can do this a lot more, it’s just up to me to try and produce it a lot more than I do!

“Whether I’m third or fourth, it doesn’t matter. If I’m fourth I play Luke [Littler] – I know how to beat him, and he knows how to beat me.”

Humphries and Price head into the final league night level on 24 points, although the Welshman currently occupies third place thanks to a superior number of nightly victories.

Price will open the evening against Dutch youngster Gian van Veen, while Humphries faces a difficult quarter-final showdown against seven-time Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen.

Although Van Gerwen can no longer qualify for the Play-Offs, the Dutchman will be determined to finish his campaign strongly after seeing his hopes ended by Humphries in Birmingham.

The three-time World Champion remains one of the most successful players in Premier League history and will hope to carry momentum into the summer months after rediscovering some strong form on the ProTour in recent weeks.

Van Veen also enters Night 16 with pride rather than qualification at stake following his semi-final defeat to Price last week, which officially ended the Dutchman’s hopes of reaching The O2.

Nevertheless, the 24-year-old will be eager to claim a first nightly title of the campaign after a hugely impressive debut season in the competition.

Price, meanwhile, is chasing a third nightly win of the year after previously triumphing in Antwerp and Manchester, and the Welshman knows another strong run in Sheffield could hand him a psychological boost heading into Finals Night.

At the top of the table, Littler has already guaranteed himself first place in the standings for the third consecutive season after another extraordinary Premier League campaign.

The reigning World Champion has collected six nightly victories so far in 2026, matching the record tally he established during last year’s tournament.

Now, the teenage sensation has the opportunity to become the first player in Premier League history to win seven nights in a single season under the current format.

Littler will begin his challenge against Northern Ireland’s Josh Rock in the evening’s second quarter-final.

Rock has shown encouraging improvement during the second half of the campaign and recently lifted the Austrian Darts Open title, but the World Cup champion still faces a daunting task against Littler.

The Warrington star has won all eight of their previous meetings in this year’s Premier League, underlining his dominance in the rivalry so far.

The evening’s remaining quarter-final sees Jonny Clayton take on Stephen Bunting in what could prove to be one of the ties of the night.

Clayton has enjoyed a superb return to the Premier League in 2026, winning four nightly titles and comfortably securing second place in the standings behind Littler.

The Welshman will be keen to regain momentum before Finals Night after suffering defeat to Littler in Birmingham last week.

Bunting, meanwhile, may be out of Play-Off contention, but the Liverpudlian still has the opportunity to climb as high as fifth in the table with a strong finish in Sheffield.

The former Masters champion claimed his only nightly victory of the campaign in Belfast on Night Four and has produced several impressive performances in recent weeks despite narrowly missing out on the top four.

With Finals Night at The O2 Arena now just one week away, Thursday’s action in Sheffield offers one final opportunity for the Premier League stars to fine-tune their form before the battle for the sport’s most prestigious weekly title reaches its climax.
