Cameron Menzies Wins Players Championship 29 to Claim Second ProTour Title of 2026

Cameron Menzies continued his outstanding Players Championship form by defeating Gian van Veen 8-4 in the Players Championship 29 final to claim his second ProTour title of 2026.

The Scottish number two produced another impressive display at Maassport Den Bosch, winning seven consecutive matches to secure the £15,000 top prize and the fourth PDC ranking title of his career.

Menzies opened his campaign with a 6-2 victory over Nick Kenny, averaging more than 101, before edging past Canada’s Jim Long in a deciding leg.

The 37-year-old then saw off Slovenian number one Benjamin Pratnemer 6-4 before producing another victory by the same scoreline against top seed Wessel Nijman.

That win secured Menzies a third Players Championship quarter-final appearance in his last five events, and he continued his charge by defeating Jeffrey de Graaf 6-3.

Kevin Doets was next in the semi-finals, with Menzies overcoming the Dutchman to set up a final showdown with Netherlands number one Van Veen.

And Menzies made a blistering start to the showpiece, racing into a 5-0 lead while denying Van Veen a single dart at double during a dominant opening spell.

The European Champion finally got himself on the board and then rattled off three consecutive legs to move within two at 5-3.

Menzies refused to let his advantage slip, however, winning three of the next four legs to close out an 8-4 triumph and celebrate his second ProTour title of the season.

“I just wanted to win a game today. To go and win another ProTour is awesome, I’m so happy,” said Menzies, who has now won two titles in a year for the first time in his career.

“My aim is to make a good life for myself. That’s the aim that I think is achievable, but winning a major and having a good run at the World Championship would be amazing.

“I’ve put more effort in this year than I ever have because I nearly lost it all and I’m grateful to be in this position.”

Despite falling short in the final, Van Veen reached his first Players Championship showpiece of 2026 after another impressive run through the field.

The world number three began with a 6-1 victory over Tommy Morris, winning six consecutive legs, before overcoming Daniel Klose.

Van Veen then produced his best average of the day, 104.78, in a 6-4 victory over Darius Labanauskas before recovering from 5-3 down to edge Nathan Aspinall in a deciding leg.

His finishing proved crucial once again in the quarter-finals as he denied Chris Dobey despite another ton-plus average, producing a match-winning 120 checkout — his third ton-plus finish of the contest.

The European Champion then defeated William O’Connor 7-5, converting 50% of his attempts at double to reach the final.

Doets continued his excellent Players Championship campaign by reaching a seventh semi-final of the year.

The Dutchman produced averages of 113.90 and 104.63 in victories over Henry Coates and Jermaine Wattimena before his run came to an end against Menzies.

O’Connor also reached the last four, defeating 16-year-old Challenge Tour top-up Archie Self and Norway’s Cor Dekker 6-4 along the way.

Self enjoyed a memorable ProTour debut, securing his first win at this level against Pero Ljubic before defeating Czech number one Karel Sedlacek in a deciding leg to reach the last 32.

Dobey produced one of the most eye-catching campaigns of the day, recording a ton-plus average in each of his five matches.

The former Masters champion began with averages of 103.66, 112.73 and 106.09 in his opening three victories, conceding just one leg, before averaging more than 106 again in his victory over Josh Rock.

Jeffrey de Graaf and Hannes Honselaar completed the Dutch representation in the quarter-finals, while Wattimena also enjoyed an impressive run after posting three consecutive ton-plus averages against Jeffrey de Zwaan, Ricardo Pietreczko and Callan Rydz.

There was also a moment of perfection from Cristo Reyes, who hit a nine-darter during his opening-round demolition of Ian White, finishing the contest with a 110 average.

Former World Youth Champion Max Hopp also produced a nine-darter in his second-round victory over Tom Bissell.

Three-time World Champion Michael van Gerwen and second seed Luke Woodhouse were among the notable first-round casualties in Den Bosch, alongside Krzysztof Ratajski and Martin Schindler.

The PDC ProTour season continues on Wednesday with Players Championship 30, as the race for qualification for the 2026 Ladbrokes Players Championship Finals intensifies.
