Aspinall 2023 World Matchplay Champion

The game started in fantastic style with Nathan Aspinall taking out a 110 checkout in a 15 dart leg, to set the standard. This was followed by four holds of throw to give Asp the lead, with both missing numerous darts at a double in the fifth leg.

The second session started in the same style as the first with a ton plus checkout, and it was Aspinall again, this time it was a break of throw with a 108, but Clayton went even better in the seventh with a 141 checkout to break straight back followed by a 12 dart hold.

A second 108 checkout for the Aspinall got him back in front, before 2023 World Cup winner, Jonny Clayton fired in 101 checkout which made it half the legs won with a ton plus checkout.

Advantage Aspinall

Session three was all about Nathan Aspinall who won all five, having one of the best sessions in the tournament this year.

He started it with his best leg of the session firing in an 11 dart legs and that was quickly followed by a 14, 13 and 12 darters. Aspinall needed 18 darts in the last leg but Jonny wasn’t able to pressure enough and he finished it on double 12.

He saved the best checkout for the start of the fourth session, hitting the big fish. The ton plus checkouts continued with a 108 checkout just two legs after to make it 13-5.

The Asp continued with his fine run of legs and going into the Final break 15-5 in front.
