2024 Betfred World Matchplay Day Six – Wade & Humphries Into Semi Finals
2024 Betfred World Matchplay Day Six – Wade & Humphries Into Semi Finals
Quarter Final action got underway in the Empress Ballroom and has the format increased so did the drama in which James Wade & Luke Humphries progressed both with 16-10 wins.
Humphries Two Away
Luke Humphries continued his Matchplay form from the first dart and raced into a 3-0 lead before DreamMaker found a break back and hold to close the gap to just one.
That was the start of the Dimitri Van den Bergh run of four legs, before The World Champion hit back winning three legs out of 5-5 to square us.
The pair would continue to trade blows, and then Luke Humphries found the best leg of the game with a ten darter to break and start the run of three on the bounce to take a nice lead.
One of the funnies moments of the tournament when at 11-10 Dimitri hit back to back one 180s and done a shoulder shrug, which was followed by a 106 checkout by Luke Humphries and he copied the Belgian to the delight of everyone even Dimi.
That was the last time Dimitri had any chance of winning a leg, and when Humphries found a 161 checkout in leg 25, he knew that the game was done and he’s now just two games away from his first Betfred World Matchplay title
Wade Outscored Smith
James Wade upset the odds again by defeating Ross Smith 16-10 in the Quarter Finals of the 2024 Betfred World Matchplay.
The early stages went the way of Ross Smith while averaging 114 he also had a 116 checkout to lead the early stage 4-2.
James Wade then found his finishing darts, and checkouts of 120 and 121 helped The Machine win five legs on the spin to find a 7-4 lead. Back to back holds by both players meant we had a 9-6 interval, while James Wade was hitting 180s for fun.
The Machine found another break, and after winning three out of four legs Wade just we had 12-7 lead and Smudger was in real danger.
Smudger found another big checkout, firing in a 107 and followed that up with a 161, but once again these were just holds of throw and being unable to break James Wade, when Smith took out the 161 Wade was just three away.
The show stopper finish from Ross Smith was the last leg he won, and when James Wade hit double four he made it nine World Matchplay Semi Finals and he will return on Saturday evening.
