Day three at the 2025 Paddy Power World Darts Championship saw Peter Wright unconvincingly move through to the third round, while Mike De Decker became the second seed to leave the tournament.

Today sees the last single session of action before the semi finals on Thursday 2 January 2025, as a former semi finalist bids for his first Sid Waddell Trophy.

A former Lakeside champion is also in action, as is one of the semi finalists from this year’s UK Open.

Aspinall starts quest for title, Evans looks for round two

Nathan Aspinall reached the semi finals of this event in both 2019 and 2020. Now The Asp is looking to get there for a third time, with his campaign beginning against Leonard Gates. The Soulger beat Cameron Menzies in an emotional game on Monday night to qualify for this match.

Aspinall has not made it past the third round since those two semi final appearances at Alexandra Palace, losing in the second round last year. Gates made it to round two on his previous visit to the Palace, but lost to Stephen Bunting in 2023. Who will make it past Christmas in the first meeting between the pair?

The man who beat The Asp 12 months ago in round two also is in action tonight, as Ricky Evans takes on Gordon Mathers in one of the round one games. Rapid Ricky was the 32nd and final Pro Tour qualifier for this event, while Mathers won the Oceanic Masters to seal his spot.

Evans has yet to make the last 16 at Alexandra Palace, but GG has not won a game at the tournament. Will that record change as the two meet for the first time? Or will Rapid Ricky, who made the last four at the UK Open back in March, move into round two for the sixth straight year? The winner plays Dave Chisnall on Monday evening.

Kist aims for World Champion form, Jim Williams starts off session

Christian Kist is also playing tonight, as the 2012 Lakeside champion bids to take out Madars Razma. This is the sixth time that both players will play in the PDC World Darts Championship, with Razma earning his place through the Pro Tour and Kist through the Challenge Tour.

Kist lost in round one 12 months ago to Luke Littler, which began the then 16 year old’s journey to the Paddy Power World Darts Championship Final. He does though have an unbeaten record against Razmatazz, winning all three games the pair have played including at a Pro Tour event this year. Will that record change, or can Razma beat The Lipstick for the first time? Dirk van Duijvenbode awaits the winner on Sunday afternoon.

The first match of the night sees Jim Williams take on Paolo Nebrida. Williams qualified through the Pro Tour, with the Flipino Nebrida qualifying via the Asian Tour, winning four titles this season.

It’s the fourth straight time Williams plays at the PDC World Championship, having lost the 2020 BDO World Final to Wayne Warren. Nebrida will play at Alexandra Palace for the third straight year, and is looking for his first win at the tournament.

This will be the first time the pair meet, so who claim victory and set up a game with Ross Smith on Sunday night?
