Chris Dobey ‘buzzing’ to secure PDC Grand Slam of Darts spot after PC33 victory
Chris Dobey admitted he’s “buzzing” to have secured a spot in November’s Grand Slam of Darts after clinching his third floor title of the year at Players Championship 33.
Dobey edged out Irishman William O’Connor 8–6 in the final, but earlier in the day, he produced dominant victories over Greg Ritchie, Robert Owen, and Jeffrey De Graaf, dropping only five legs in the process.
As the 35-year-old progressed through the rounds, he dispatched Damon Heta, Nathan Aspinall, and Wessel Nijman in comfortable fashion to reach the final.
The Bedlington star proved unstoppable as he produced sensational displays across three consecutive matches, averaging 108.76, 107.55, and 111.29 en route to the final.
After pocketing £15,000 for winning the tournament, Dobey’s success lifts him to the number six seed ahead of November’s Players Championship Finals.
Dobey, who averaged 102.18 across his seven matches, shared to the PDC: “This just goes to show if you stick in, you get the rewards.
“I’m buzzing because the Grand Slam is a big tournament. I’ve missed out in two of the last three years, so it’s good to be back.
“I’m happy with my game, I’m consistently playing well and picking up titles on the ProTour, and this is what I wanted a few years ago.”
With his place in Wolverhampton now secured, the 2023 Masters winner has his sights set on transforming his floor form into success on the big stage.
He has yet to reach a televised quarter-final since his life-changing run to the semi-finals of the 2025 PDC World Championship, but Dobey acknowledges that he needs to keep on plodding along.
“Now I want to start winning TV titles. I cannot keep playing well on TV and not get anything for it, so I’m just going to dig in and keep believing,” he shared.
“I want to be back with the top players in the world, playing them week in week out, and if I keep producing darts like this, I shouldn’t be too far away.”
Dobey returns to the Grand Slam of Darts for the first time since 2023, but his best result in the tournament came on his debut in 2016, when he reached his first televised quarter-final.
