Bullish Clayton too strong for Price

The Ferret was simply sublime, as he completed a thumping victory over his fellow countryman Gerwyn Price.

Price opened up proceedings by taking the first leg on throw. But, Clayton came roaring back to take 3 legs on the spin and wrap up the first set in next to no time, wiring double 16 for a 149 in the process.

The Ferret continued his onslaught in set two, winning the opening two legs before the World number one Price, won two on the spin to take us to a decider. Clayton proved too strong though and nailed double 14 to take a two set lead.

Set three proved to be one of the best sets of this years tournament. Clayton reeled in the big fish and a 164 in astonishing fashion to claim his third straight set in a row, and Gerwyn Price could only smile in admiration at his World Cup partner. Price averaging 115 to Clayton’s 111 in set three.

Set four proved to be no less dramatic than set three. Once again it went to a deciding leg where Price fired in a massive 180, just before Clayton wired the bull for a 130 checkout. But, it was Price who prevailed to get his first set on the board.

No let off from Clayton

Clayton was in no mood for slowing down. He breezed through set number five winning it 3-1. He also hit his third ton plus checkout of the match with a 110, finished on double 18 and Gerwyn Price could only look on in admiration.

The sixth and final set was every bit as good as the third set. Price missed double top for 148 before Clayton swopped in with a stunning 152 checkout to steal the leg. Like two heavyweights trading massive blows, Price fired back with a 102 checkout and he wasn’t going down without a fight.

But, it was Clayton who was to deliver the final blow in the final. He nailed a brilliant 116 checkout to win 5-1 in astonishing fashion at the Leicester Arena. The Ferret claiming a third major title in the PDC this year and a £110,000 winner’s check in the process.

A stunning night of darts and a worthy winner of the 2021 Boylesports World Grand Prix title.
