The Ricoh Arena in Coventry will become the new home of TV darts

Ricoh becomes new home

The first event to be held in Coventry will be the 2020 Unibet Premier League Play Offs. That will happen on Thursday 15 October, three days after the BoyleSports World Grand Prix final at the same venue.

The next darts event in Coventry will be the PDC Winter Series from Tuesday 10 November- Saturday 14 November. The 2020 BoyleSports Grand Slam of Darts will follow from Monday 16 November – Tuesday 24 November, with the qualifying event taking place on Monday 9 November at the same venue.

The final event to take place at the Ricoh will be the 2020 Ladbrokes Players Championship Finals. The event will take place on its original dates from Friday 27 November – Sunday 29 November.

It will also host the 2020 PDPA World Championship Qualifier on Monday 30 November at 1200 GMT.

A minimum of two places will be on offer to tour card holders who will have a final chance to qualify for the 2020/21 William Hill World Darts Championship.

Coventry chosen as Milton Keynes unavailable

The PDC have been using the Marshall Arena for events since the resumption of darts. The Summer Series, the World Matchplay and the Premier League have all been played in Milton Keynes.

However, the venue will be used to host snooker throughout October and November. This means that another venue will be required to host the three events.

The PDC were looking for a place where there’s a hotel on site so they can create a secure bubble. The Ricoh Arena fits that bill, and so will host three of the next four major darts championships.

In a statement, PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter said: “Firstly, we would like to thank everyone at the Ricoh Arena for their co-operation in accommodating four of our biggest events in a short space of time,”

“Whilst we are disappointed that fans will not be in attendance at the traditional venues for these events, we are pleased to still be able to deliver these for both players and viewers during these uncertain times.

“October and November are always among the busiest and exciting months in the PDC calendar and this year is no different, with six TV events providing a perfect build-up to the World Championship.

“The players have conducted themselves impeccably throughout this period and I am sure they will provide more top-class entertainment over the coming weeks and months.”
