UK Open Champion Dimitri Van Den Bergh Defeats Canada’s Matt Campbell in the final of Players Championship Event 12

Whilst no stranger to PDC major title success, Dimitri “The Dream Maker” Van den Bergh had not made the final of a Players Championship event since 2022. Both players struggled to reach the level of performance that had bought them to the final, and it was the Canadian who started brighter. Campbell took a 3-1 lead in the early stages before being completely overran by Van den Bergh rattling off 7 legs on the spin to secure what in the end was a comfortable victory.

The road to the final of Players Championship 12

Van den Bergh looked comfortable through much of the day and was untroubled at any point in his 7-3 semi-final victory over Madars Razma and likewise his 6-3 quarter-final win over Boris Krcmar. Only Maik Kuivenhoven posed a real threat to the Belgian who survived Kuivenhoven missing a match dart of a deciding leg in the second round.

Dimitri showed the international feel of the current tour by reaching the final having beaten players from 7 different nationalities in Matt Campbell, Madars Razma, Boris Krčmar, Dom Taylor, Mike De Decker, Maik Kuivenhoven and Martin Schindler.

Campbell’s route to the final had less of an international feel as he overcame four Dutchmen in a row; a semi-final win over Danny Noppert proceeded by a quarter-final win over Richard Veenstra having already moved past Gian van Veen and Wesley Plaisier

Campbell put himself into the mix for a spot at the World Championships by making today’s final.
