“It’s the oldest current tournament in history, it’s been going since the early 70s. It’s sad”

The WDF have come under much criticism in recent years, from cancelling the BDO Trophy to the rescheduling of the 2023 World Championship.

However, it is their handling of the Winmau World Masters that upset the former England International the most. “I mean they ruined the event as soon as they changed it from sets to legs” said Mason, ‘They don’t know what they’re doing”

“If you can not sell and get sponsorship for an event of that prestige, the oldest tournament currently in darts then sorry again not fit for purpose,”

The World Masters will not take place in 2023, after the WDF confirmed they had been unable to get everything signed off before their self-imposed June deadline, leaving the future of the event in uncertainty.
