Gary Anderson rolls back the years to end 10-year wait for Euro Tour title “It’s been a very long time”
There was a time when many doubted that we would see Gary Anderson play the PDC European Tour again. Anderson had been on a self-imposed hiatus from the European Tour since 2016, but the Flying Scotsman pricked a U-turn in 2023 and decided to return.
Anderson’s last Euro Tour title was in event number 14 in 2014 when he defeated Justin Pipe in the final. A decade on Anderson was back in the winners’ circle in 2024 as he seated Ross Smith in event 114 the European Darts Grand Prix.
After slipping down the rankings in 2023, this seemed to kickstart Anderson as over the last 18 months the Flying Scotsman returned to winning Players championship events.
Anderson is now back up to world 21 in the PDC ranking and is also on course to return to the top 16 by the end of the year.
Anderson admitted he had lived a charmed life on the final day of action
“It’s been a very long time since winning a stage title,
“I don’t know how I’ve won it tonight; my last three games I’ve never been as lucky in darts.
“Many years ago when I played in the European Tour the crowd was just starting to grow and since then it’s just got bigger and bigger,” the Scot recalls.
“Wherever you go now, people want to play darts and watch darts; these crowds are incredible.”
