Gerwyn Price wins his second Players Championship of 2025 “I’ve been struggling with a bit of an injury over the last week, and it’s still not fully healed.”

On Monday afternoon, Gerwyn Price won his 19th Players Championship at Leicester’s event nine. Ian White lost to the Iceman 8–4 in the final because he was too strong.

Price led 2-1, White with the darts, and the match began on a high note with three throw holds in five trips. The Iceman then shown his class by breaking in twelve darts with a checkout of 140 to take a 3-1 lead.

Following that, the standard lowered, but the Iceman continued to lead the game. Price held in 21 darts to take a 4-1 lead after White failed to checkout 20. White made a vital 126 checkout to hold his throw in leg six.

White missed crucial doubles in both legs, but Price won the next two to take a 6-2 lead. Price then went one win away from the title, winning leg nine with a 78 checkout to take a 7-2 lead.

Price missed five darts for the match in leg 10 and another match dart in leg eleven, failing to take out 61 in two visits.

Price broke in 12 darts and checked out 91 to win the title in leg twelve, ultimately winning the match.

Price, who won Players Championship Two in February, recorded a remarkable 114.36 average in his semi-final victory over Brendan Dolan before holding off a White comeback in the final.

“It’s nice to get another win, this is a confidence boost going into tomorrow [Players Championship Ten] and the Premier League on Thursday,” said Price.

“I said to James Wade at the start of the day ‘I’m going to win today’ and I’ve gone and done it.

“I’ve been struggling with a bit of an injury over the last week, and it’s still not fully healed.

“I was inconsistent today, I was very up and down in my performance level, but a win’s a win.”

Price started the day by defeating Robert Grundy, Keane Barry, and Nathan Rafferty, before defeating Dave Chisnall in the final 16 with an average of 104.50.

The Welshman then defeated Niels Zonneveld in the quarter-finals before beating Dolan and White to win his 39th PDC title in less than ten years.

Meanwhile, White defeated Luke Littler (averaging 106.04 in a 6-5 victory) and Josh Rock to reach his first ProTour final since March 2020.

In Monday’s action, Gary Anderson produced a nine-dart finish in his 6-5 first round triumph over Krzysztof Ratajski, with the Scot averaging 115.66, the highest of the day at the Mattioli facility.
