Glory for Gerwyn Price at the European Darts Grand Prix claiming his tenth European Tour Title “I never used to have this support, but I’m cherishing every moment I get on stage – it’s brilliant for me and long may it continue!”

Gerwyn Price celebrated a major milestone in Sindelfingen on Sunday, powering his way to a tenth European Tour title with an 8-6 victory over Ross Smith in the final of the Elten Safety Shoes European Darts Grand Prix.

In doing so, Price becomes only the second player in history—alongside Michael van Gerwen—to reach double figures in European Tour titles. The Welshman averaged just under 100 across the weekend, underlining his consistency as he claimed the trophy at the Glaspalast.

Price’s route to the title was anything but straightforward. He began with a 6-4 win over Dave Chisnall, hitting five 180s in the process, before raising his level further in a high-quality clash against Chris Dobey. In that contest, Price averaged 105.96 to progress by the same scoreline.

The quarter-finals provided a stern test, as Price survived a match dart to edge past Martin Schindler in a deciding leg. He then continued his charge by overcoming Wessel Nijman 7-4 in the semi-finals, avenging a previous defeat and booking his place in the showpiece.

The final itself was a momentum-filled encounter. Price stormed into a 3-0 lead, only for Smith to respond emphatically by reeling off four consecutive legs to take control. However, the three-time Grand Slam champion dug deep, producing a crucial 130 checkout in a 12-dart leg to halt Smith’s surge.

A pivotal moment followed when Smith missed five darts at double, allowing Price to capitalise and move 6-5 ahead with a break of throw. Although Smith kept the pressure on with a 12-darter to close the gap to 7-6, Price held his nerve, sealing victory with a composed 14-dart leg to secure the title.

“I’ve been in the PDC for 12 years now, so less than one a year on average isn’t very good!” joked Price after the win.

“I was 3-0 up, then 4-3 down, and Ross started smashing the trebles in for fun. I was hanging on and hoping I got more opportunities, and I did.

“Thankfully I won this one, and hopefully it will give me a bit of confidence going forward.

“I was just struggling to get over the winning line. I lost in the last European Tour final that I played in.

“I never used to have this support, but I’m cherishing every moment I get on stage – it’s brilliant for me and long may it continue!”

For Smith, it was another near miss in a European Tour final, as he continues his search for a first title at this level. Despite the disappointment, the Englishman produced a series of impressive performances throughout the weekend.

He opened with a strong display against Cameron Menzies, hitting six 180s and delivering an efficient performance on the doubles to win 6-3. He then edged past Josh Rock in a deciding-leg thriller, before overcoming recent champion Nathan Aspinall 6-4 in a high-quality quarter-final.

Smith also impressed in the semi-finals, defeating Krzysztof Ratajski 7-5 despite being out-averaged, showing resilience to reach his third consecutive European Tour final.

“I’m absolutely gutted, but fair play to Gezzy, the better man won,” admitted Smith.

“It’s fine margins. You’re playing the best players in the world – if you don’t hit your doubles, you’re going to get punished.

“The crowd was absolutely amazing. Thank you for turning up all weekend, you were brilliant.

“It is what it is. I’ll crack on with the next one.”

Elsewhere, Ratajski’s run to the semi-finals marked a personal best on the European Tour, recording back-to-back last-four appearances after victories over Joe Cullen, Danny Noppert and others across the weekend.

Nijman also continued his excellent form in 2026, reaching yet another semi-final after wins over Ryan Searle and Ian White, while also claiming a notable victory over Van Gerwen earlier in the event.

Meanwhile, Noppert made it three consecutive European Tour quarter-finals, and Aspinall followed up his Munich success with another strong showing, despite falling short of another deep run.

Van Gerwen and Schindler completed the quarter-final line-up, with the German delighting the home crowd by producing a dominant 6-1 win over Jonny Clayton in the last 16.

Attention now turns to the next phase of the PDC calendar, with the ProTour resuming in Milton Keynes later this month, before the European Tour continues at the Austrian Darts Open in Graz in early May.
