It was a tale of two opposites in Wigan on Saturday for the PDC Women’s Series as Beau Greaves claimed her 23rd Women’s series title whilst Gemma Hayter claimed her first title.

The first event of the day had a very familiar feel to it as Beau Greaves claimed her third title of the year and 23rd PDC Women’s Series title overall defeating Mikuru Suzuki 5|4 in the final.

Whilst Beau might not have been hitting the high averages we’re so used to seeing her hit she had more than enough throughout the event to secure her place in the winners circle once again at a PDC Women’s Series Event.

In a repeat of Event eight’s final Beau Greaves came up against Mikuru Suzuki and whilst Beau’s margin of victory wasn’t as comfortable as it was for the Japanese star in Event eight Greaves will be happy to get over the line and open up a bigger lead in the Matchplay seedings.

Beau kept her best performance of the event for the final in averaging 91.17 as she got past Suzuki with a last leg deciding win.

Beau’s route to the final

The first two rounds saw Greaves ease past Stacey Ellis and Clayanna Brandon without dropping a single leg and also posting her second highest average of the event in defeating Ellis.

Beau Greaves won her 23rd Women’s Series Event on Saturday.

The last 32 saw Greaves pitted against Kim Holden and despite only averaging 77 she had more than enough for her opponent as she won 4-1. The last 16 saw her come up against Lorraine Winstanley in the last of the best of 7 rounds and again won quite comfortably 4-2.

Despite the matches going up to best of nine from the quarter-final onwards the margins of Beau’s victories stayed the same. In the last eight she got past Finnish darts player Kirsi Viinikainen averaging over 85 in her 5-1 victory.

It was from here things go a little bit trickier for Beau because despite her averaging significantly higher than her opponents in the semi-final and final she was taken to a last leg decider. In her semi final she came up against fellow darter Paige Pauling and despite averaging nine points more than her opponent the match went all the way.

Hayter joins an exclusive club

Event Ten then gave us our 12th different winner as Gemma Hayter got the better of recently crowned Modus Super Series Women’s week winner Rhian O’Sullivan in the final defeating the Welsh star 5-3 with an average of 72.

Gemma did have the luxury as well of not facing any match darts against her throughout the Event. After receiving a bye in the first round she then about on a run that would take her all the way to the title.

In the second and round Hayter got past Dutch darter Sharona Veld 4-1 before taking on fellow English darter Rebecca Brouse in the last 32 winning by 4 legs to 2 and averaging just shy of 73.

The last 16 and quarter final saw Gemma produced her two best performances of the event. The last 16 saw her produce her highest average of the event in hitting a 79.53 as she defeated Steph Clarke 4-1.

Once again the quarter final stage sees the matches increase to a best of 9 and she got past 3 times BDO Women’s World Champion Anastasia Dobromyslova – comfortably winning 5-1. She then secured her place in the PDC Women’s Series Event 10 final by defeating Paige Pauling who was herself in her second semi final of the day by winning 5-2 with a 75 average.

Hayter’s win could have further rewards for the English darter as her win today lifted her into the final qualifying spot for the Women’s Matchplay.

Rhian O’Sullivan had to settle as runner up in  PDC Women’s Series Event 10

Another Woman who deserves a mention for her performances in both PDC Women’s Series Events of the day is Paige Pauling. She managed to make it to the Semi-Final in both events only to lose out to the eventual winner on both occasions. In Event 10 Pauling defeated Mikuru Suzuki in the last 32 meaning the Japanese star cannot be seeded higher than third in the Matchplay.

Sunday sees the Women return to action for the PDC Women’s Series Events Eleven and Twelve – the last two events before the Women’s Matchplay.
