Luke Littler into successive World Championship Final and Michael Van Gerwen into his seventh World Championship Final – Day 15 2024/25 World Championships Semi Finals

This means that both Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting leave the World Championships at the semi-final stage once more.

Luke ‘the Nuke’ Littler, the 2023–24 World Championship runner-up, will now face Michael Van Gerwen, the 2022–23 World Championship runner-up.

Vintage Van Gerwen back into the World Championships Finals

Michael Van Gerwen, a six-time finalist and three-time champion, faced Chris Dobey, the 2023 Masters Champion, in the night’s first semi-final. The difference between the two, however, turned out to be a lack of clinical edge in the finishing department.

It ended up being a comfortable victory for the Dutchman, but there were some unexpected turns along the way, as the seasoned Mighty Mike proved to be too strong for Hollywood.

Despite, winning the opening two sets it was two distinct performances. The six-time Grand Prix Champion put on an explosive display in the first set, averaging an incredible 103.81 and missing just two double darts.

Nevertheless, he had trouble scoring in the next set, but he capitalised on Dobey who, before Van Gerwen cleaned up 74, missed three set darts (one at D20, D10, and D5).

Chris Dobey would eventually win a set, but it would turn out to be his final one in the 2024/2025 World Championships. He reeled in the big fish by pinning an inch-perfect 170 while spinning three legs on the fly.

The Green Machine would then increase his advantage from two sets to three by responding with three legs on the spin of his own. The best of leg of the match, came during this set, as Van Gerwen pinned six perfect darts. Although he couldn’t follow with a seventh T20, he did wrap up the leg within 10 darts hitting a routine D16.

Dobey would ultimately find the deficit too much to handle, as Michael Van Gerwen would win by a commanding 6-1. The seven-time Premier League champion proved too good for the to Englishman Chris Dobey. With Van Gerwen averaging 98.84 compared against Dobey’s 94.77, Mighty Mike averaged above 100 in three sets, while Dobey only accomplished this once.

Subsequently, it was Michael Van Gerwen who secured the first of two places in the 2024/25 World Championships Final.

Littler breezes past the Bullet

The Warrington Wonderkid had the opportunity to advance to consecutive World Championship finals in the night’s final semi-final, and the tipped title favorite took advantage of it.

Although he averaged a monstrous 113.35 in the first set, Stephen Bunting was unable to win the set. A sixth maximum in the final leg of the first set from Littler, saw him race down to a double ahead of the Masters Champion. Littler had the first go at 87, but the bullseye was far away, so he returned his reliable D10 to close out the opening set.

Bunting’s incredible nine missed doubles efforts gave the Premier League Champion unexpected doubles opportunities, which he seized to defeat the Bullet in set two.

Bunting’s previous set average of 113.35 was surpassed by the Nuke, who averaged 114.18 in set three despite three missing dart attempts. But the two-time semi-finalist fail to capitalise on these rare opportunities and conceded a third straight set.

Luke Littler would once again win another set by averaging far above the 100 (107.56). Stephen Bunting would eventually win a well-earned set after five sets, however this would be his last at the 2024–2025 World Championship.

Stephen Bunting would eventually fall to the Nuke by a resounding 6-1 defeat. Unsurprisingly, Littler blasted 170 in the penultimate leg of the contest, the highest checkout of the match.

The Grand Slam Champion averaged 105.48, his third successive average above 100 at the 2024–25 World Championships, which is currently his highest of the tournament.
