Sebastian Bialecki Bolts Up To Win Second PDC Ranking Title With Players Championship 26 

Sebastian Bialecki secured his second PDC ranking title with a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Mario Vandenbogaerde in Wednesday’s Players Championship 26 final.

Exactly one year to the day after claiming his maiden ranking title in Hildesheim, Bialecki repeated the feat on German soil, overturning a 5-3 deficit to cap another memorable triumph.

The 22-year-old has now claimed an astonishing six Development Tour titles in 2026, and he further underlined his growing reputation by returning to the winner’s circle at Halle 39.

Bialecki began his title challenge with successive ton-plus averages in deciding-leg victories over Dennie Olde Kalter and Cor Dekker, recovering from 5-3 down in his opener against Olde Kalter.

Poland’s number two then conceded just three legs across his next three matches, sweeping aside Viktor Tingstrom, Bradley Brooks and Damon Heta to storm into the semi-finals.

Bialecki then reeled off five consecutive legs from 4-2 down to stun European Champion Gian van Veen, before producing another stirring comeback against Belgian veteran Vandenbogaerde.

Vandenbogaerde led 3-1 and later 5-3, but Bialecki responded with a devastating mid-match burst, taking out back-to-back 101 and 100 checkouts before winning five of the final six legs to seal the title.

“I don’t know what I can say. It’s an unbelievable feeling,” reflected Bialecki, who currently sits eighth on the Players Championship Order of Merit.

“Before this tournament, I saw on my Facebook memories that it was the day I won my first one a year ago.

“Maybe this tournament was a little bit similar, because I also won the first match from 3-5 down. I’m over the moon now.”

Bialecki’s second ProTour title moves him firmly into contention for a debut appearance at the World Grand Prix, which takes place in Leicester from September 28 to October 4.

The Polish World Cup star is yet to feature in the unique double-start event, although he remains focused on maintaining his recent consistency rather than looking too far ahead.

“At the start of this year, I just wanted to secure my Tour Card for next year,” Bialecki continued.

“I didn’t expect that to be possible now after some good results and appearances on the European Tour.

“Now my position is very good for the big tournaments. I don’t know about the next few months, but I just want to keep up the good results.”

Despite falling short of a maiden ranking title, Vandenbogaerde’s impressive run lifted him into the provisional qualification places for both the Players Championship Finals and the World Darts Championship later this year.

The 53-year-old — also a ProTour finalist in September 2025 — survived a late fightback from Kevin Doets in round two before recording comfortable victories over Brendan Dolan and Richard Veenstra.

Vandenbogaerde then recovered from 5-4 down to deny Joe Hunt in the quarter-finals with a 99 average, before producing clinical 148, 100 and 104 checkouts to defeat Justin Hood 7-4 in the semi-finals.

Hood reached his second ProTour semi-final of 2026 after victories over Niko Springer, William O’Connor and Monday’s champion Henry Coates, while also averaging 101 in his quarter-final demolition of Karel Sedlacek.

Van Veen completed the semi-final line-up after overcoming Mickey Mansell, Ricky Evans and former European Champion Ritchie Edhouse to collect the £6,500 semi-final prize.

The Dutch number one now sits just £250 behind world number two Luke Humphries on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder and will have the opportunity to overtake the Englishman next month.

Elsewhere, Monday’s champion Coates continued his breakthrough week in Hildesheim, averaging 109.34 and 105.79 before his defeat to Hood.

Newly crowned Women’s World Matchplay champion Beau Greaves also averaged over 106 and 104 in victories against Adam Paxton and Yorick Hofkens respectively, before eventually succumbing to a resurgent Heta.

Earlier in the day, Scott Williams produced a perfect leg during his opening-round victory over Callan Rydz, although his hopes of a deep run were also ended by Heta in round two.

The 2026 PDC ProTour season resumes next month, with Players Championships 27-28 taking place at Leicester’s Mattioli Arena on August 25-26.
