Van Gerwen confirms he will play at the O2 for the Premier League playoffs

After Thursday night in Aberdeen, all eyes were on Michael van Gerwen, after the three times world champion was forced to pull out of his semi-final after the Dutchman suffered an injury against, Chris Dobey.

People questioned if van Gerwen would even be able to play in the playoffs next Thursday. However, the Dutchman has crushed that situation and has vowed that he will defend his title at the O2.

“It’s okay I’m not going to take any risks. I’ve seen a specialist,”

“It is what it is you can’t really chance it. The funny thing is that it came out of the blue. That’s what worried me a bit but they told me it wouldn’t get worse.”

100% I will be there,” he says immediately, leaving no one in any doubt. “Even with the same injury as yesterday, I will be there 100% because it’s too important so I need to make sure I get my rest now and maybe I can play on the weekend I’m not too sure yet.”

“There was not enough at stake to take that risk,” he continues, explained his withdrawal from the Premier League tie with Van den Bergh. “If it was a World Championship semi-final I would have kept playing. It’s another warning to yourself that you are human.”

Van Gerwen will face Michael Smith in a repeat of the world final in the second semi-final at the Premier League playoffs.
