Michael van Gerwen got revenge over Luke Littler to win the 2024 Dutch Darts Masters as part of the World Series of Darts.

In a rematch of last week’s final in Bahrain, The Green Machine took the spoils thanks to an 8-6 victory over the 17-year old in what was a high quality game in front of a partisan home crowd in Den Bosch.

It means that the reigning World Series of Darts Finals winner keeps up his astonishing record of having won at least one World Series event in every year he’s been a part of the event. It’s also the first time he’s won his home World Series event, and the 21st title in the World Series.

Van Gerwen outlasts Littler in excellent final

Littler and Van Gerwen had similar paths to the night’s final. Both survived last leg deciders in the quarter finals against Luke Humphries and Raymond van Barneveld respectively, before the two won their semi final 7-4 against Gerwyn Price and Gian Van Veen respectively. Price and Van Veen had beaten Kevin Doets and Danny Noppert in their last eight ties earlier in the evening.

Both held their throw to start, before an 18 dart break gave The Nuke a 2-1 lead. The Green Machine responded well though, finding an 11 dart break of his own to level at 2-2. The two players then held again in a gripping contest, before MvG found double 12 to lead at the interval 4-3.

Littler equalised again straight out of the break, and left 66 after 12 darts in the next leg to attempt to break. He did not get a shot though, as an excellent 130 outshot from van Gerwen kept him ahead.

The Nuke would not go away though, and again levelled this time in 14 darts. Both then held once again for 6-6, which made a best two out of three shootout for the title.

Littler then missed two darts at double eight to throw for the match, allowing van Gerwen to find double 10 in 13 darts. He then missed the bull for a Big Fish 170 outshot, to which MvG hit an 85 to win a fantastic game. Littler found a 106.71 average, with MvG hitting a 100.59. In the end though, the checkouts showed where the match was won and lost. The Nuke only hit 6/14, whereas Mighty Mike hit 8/12.
